Aims and Scope
Aims and Scope
The Avicenna Journal of Clinical and Translational Medicine (AJCTM) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by Avicenna Medical Press. The journal provides a forum for research that bridges biomedical discovery, clinical investigation, and the application of scientific evidence to healthcare.
Aims
AJCTM aims to advance scientific understanding and clinical practice by publishing rigorous, ethically conducted, and clinically relevant research. Its central purpose is to support the translation of scientific discoveries into improved approaches to disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
The journal encourages interdisciplinary research involving clinicians, biomedical scientists, pharmacologists, epidemiologists, and other healthcare researchers. It seeks to promote meaningful collaboration across the continuum from laboratory investigation to clinical evaluation and implementation in healthcare settings.
Scientific Scope
AJCTM considers contributions in the following interconnected areas:
- Clinical Medicine and Patient-Oriented Research: Clinical trials, observational studies, diagnostic and prognostic investigations, therapeutic evaluations, and patient-reported outcomes.
- Translational Biomedical Sciences: Experimental investigations with clearly articulated clinical relevance, including disease mechanisms, biomarkers, molecular pathways, and therapeutic targets.
- Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics: Drug efficacy, safety, pharmacovigilance, pharmacogenomics, therapeutic optimization, and clinically relevant pharmaceutical research.
- Cardiovascular, Metabolic, and Multisystem Medicine: Clinical and translational investigations addressing cardiovascular, endocrine, metabolic, and related disorders.
- Precision and Personalized Medicine: Research involving molecular diagnostics, genomics, biomarkers, risk stratification, and individualized therapeutic approaches.
- Evidence Synthesis: Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other rigorous syntheses addressing relevant clinical or translational questions.
- Population Health and Real-World Evidence: Epidemiological studies, comparative effectiveness research, healthcare outcomes, and research using real-world clinical data.
- Implementation and Health Services Research: Investigations of how evidence-based interventions are adopted, evaluated, and delivered in clinical practice.
- Digital Health and Clinical Innovation: Scientific evaluations of artificial intelligence, digital diagnostics, decision-support tools, and emerging healthcare technologies.
Editorial Priorities
AJCTM particularly welcomes investigations that address important unanswered clinical questions, provide robust and reproducible evidence, or offer new insights into mechanisms of disease and therapeutic interventions.
Research conducted in diverse populations and healthcare environments is encouraged, including studies from low- and middle-income countries, where findings contribute meaningfully to the wider scientific literature.
The journal values methodological rigor, transparent reporting, appropriate statistical analysis, scientific originality, and the responsible interpretation of findings.
Article Types
AJCTM considers Original Research Articles, Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, Narrative Reviews, Short Communications, Case Reports, Methodological Articles, Perspectives, Letters to the Editor, and Editorials. Some contribution types may be commissioned or considered at the discretion of the Editorial Office.
Scope Considerations
Research in basic sciences, laboratory medicine, public health, healthcare education, or related disciplines is considered when it demonstrates a clear connection to clinical or translational medicine.
Manuscripts without an identifiable clinical or translational contribution, or those with substantial methodological or ethical deficiencies, may be declined without external peer review.
All submissions are assessed according to their scientific merit, ethical standards, methodological quality, and relevance to the journal's scope.
