Reporting Guidelines
Research Reporting Guidelines
Avicenna Journal of Clinical and Translational Medicine
AJCTM supports complete, accurate and transparent reporting of clinical, translational and biomedical research. Authors must select reporting guidelines appropriate to their study design and provide sufficient methodological detail for critical appraisal.
The journal follows internationally recognized reporting standards, including those maintained by the EQUATOR Network.
1. Reporting Guidelines by Study Design
| Study Design | Guideline |
|---|---|
| Randomized controlled trials | CONSORT 2025 |
| Observational studies | STROBE |
| Systematic reviews and meta-analyses | PRISMA 2020 |
| Case reports | CARE |
| Diagnostic accuracy studies | STARD |
| Prediction model studies | TRIPOD / relevant extensions |
| Clinical trial protocols | SPIRIT |
| Qualitative research | COREQ / SRQR |
| Animal research | ARRIVE 2.0 |
| Quality improvement studies | SQUIRE |
| Health economic evaluations | CHEERS 2022 |
| Studies using routinely collected health data | RECORD, where applicable |
Authors should use the latest applicable version and any relevant study-specific extension rather than relying on a generic checklist.
2. Submission Requirements
For study designs covered by an established reporting guideline, authors should submit:
- A completed reporting checklist
- Relevant checklist page or section references
- A participant-flow diagram where applicable
- Required protocol or registration information
- Any relevant supplementary methodological material
Reporting checklists should correspond to the submitted manuscript and should not be completed merely as a formality.
3. Methodological Transparency
Methods should be described with sufficient detail to evaluate the research design, participant selection, measurements, outcomes, data handling and analytical approach.
Authors should explain missing data, study limitations, sources of bias, and clinically meaningful uncertainty.
Deviations from registered protocols or prespecified analysis plans must be identified and justified where relevant.
4. Statistical Reporting
Statistical methods must be appropriate to the research questions and study design.
Authors should report effect estimates and measures of uncertainty, including confidence intervals, where appropriate.
P values should not be the sole basis for interpreting scientific or clinical importance.
Sample size considerations, missing data handling, adjustment methods and sensitivity analyses should be described where applicable.
5. Clinical and Translational Relevance
Authors should explain how their research contributes to scientific understanding, clinical decision-making, diagnostic innovation, treatment development, or improved patient outcomes.
Conclusions must be proportionate to the study design and findings. Observational associations should not be interpreted as proof of causation without appropriate evidence.
6. Ethical and Transparency Statements
Manuscripts must include applicable statements addressing:
- Research ethics approval or exemption
- Informed consent and consent for publication
- Trial or study registration
- Funding and sponsor involvement
- Competing interests
- Author contributions
- Data availability
- Use of AI-assisted technologies
7. Reporting Guideline Resources
Authors may consult the following resources for current guidelines and checklists:
EQUATOR Network
CONSORT and SPIRIT
PRISMA Statement
ICMJE Recommendations
8. Editorial Assessment
AJCTM may request reporting checklists, additional methodological information, protocols, analytical details or supplementary materials during editorial assessment.
Compliance with a reporting guideline does not itself establish methodological quality or guarantee manuscript acceptance.
