Digital Preservation, Privacy and Accessibility

Avicenna Journal of Clinical and Translational Medicine

The Avicenna Journal of Clinical and Translational Medicine (AJCTM), published by Avicenna Medical Press (AMP), recognizes digital preservation, personal data protection, and accessibility as essential responsibilities of responsible scholarly publishing.

1. Digital Preservation

AJCTM aims to protect the accessibility and integrity of published scholarly content, including article files, bibliographic metadata, issue records, and supplementary materials.

The publisher will work towards appropriate backup, recovery, and independent preservation arrangements to reduce the risk of permanent content loss.

Participation in services such as PKP Preservation Network, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, or other recognized preservation arrangements will be publicly identified only after active participation has been confirmed.

Routine hosting backups are not represented as equivalent to independent long-term digital preservation.

2. Continuity of the Scholarly Record

AJCTM seeks to maintain stable article identification, bibliographic information, and access to published content during website maintenance, migration, or other operational changes.

Should publishing operations cease, the publisher will endeavour to arrange continued access to the scholarly record through appropriate repository or archival arrangements, subject to available infrastructure and applicable legal obligations.

3. Personal Information Collected

The journal's publishing system may collect names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, ORCID identifiers, account information, manuscript files, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, and technical information necessary for platform operation.

The journal seeks to collect information only for legitimate publishing, security, scholarly communication, and research-integrity purposes.

4. Use of Personal Information

Information may be used for manuscript submission, editorial assessment, peer-review coordination, publication, author attribution, correspondence, and maintaining the integrity of the scientific record.

Access to confidential manuscript and reviewer information should be limited to authorized personnel with a legitimate operational purpose.

AJCTM does not sell contributors' personal information to advertisers.

5. Data Sharing and Service Providers

Personal information may be processed through authorized hosting, publishing, communication, metadata-registration, and preservation services where necessary for journal operations.

Such processing should be subject to appropriate confidentiality, security, and applicable data-protection safeguards.

Confidential reviewer identities are not publicly disclosed under the journal's double-anonymized peer-review arrangements.

6. Cookies and Technical Information

The OJS publishing platform may use cookies, session information, and technical logs to support login functionality, security, site administration, and normal operation.

Any optional analytics or third-party tracking must be reviewed for compatibility with applicable privacy requirements.

7. Data Retention and Individual Requests

Personal information is retained for purposes consistent with journal operations, applicable legal obligations, and preservation of the scholarly publication record.

Individuals may request clarification or correction of inaccurate information, or request deletion where legally and operationally permissible.

Some records may require continued retention for publication integrity, legal compliance, or accurate scholarly attribution.

8. Website Accessibility

AJCTM aims to provide a website and publishing experience that can be used by readers, authors, and reviewers with different abilities and assistive technologies.

The journal seeks to improve readable typography, meaningful headings, descriptive links, keyboard navigation, appropriate color contrast, alternative descriptions for informative images, and accessible publication documents.

The journal uses recognized accessibility principles as a guide for continued improvement but does not claim formal accessibility certification or complete conformance without independent verification.

9. Security and Incidents

Suspected unauthorized access, information loss, or confidentiality incidents will be assessed and addressed according to applicable operational and legal requirements.

Where legally required, affected parties or competent authorities will be notified.
